Abstract

Age-related Macular Degeneration is the leading cause of blindness in the Western World; this is mainly due to proliferations of choroideal neovascular membranes. The results of fluorescein angiography and Amsler grid performed in 25 eyes, were compared: Amsler grid is able to herald the onset of leakage from subretinal new vessels having high positive and negative predictive values. Any distorsion or blurred area on the grid is an indication for prompt examination. Otherwise, when the test is negative, we can put off fluorescein angiography especially if health of patients dissuades or interferes with tests applying for intravenous solutions.
