Abstract
HVA and 5 HIAA levels have been assayed in the rat brain at different time intervals after acute or chronic i.p. administration of tetrahydropapaveroline (THP), 8 and 60 mg/kg. In addition, the influence of THP pretreatment on the L dopa induced HVA increase in the rat brain as well as the PCPA induced 5 HIAA decrease have been studied. The results support the possibility that THP may displace brain monoamines in vivo. This property of THP may be related to certain side effects of L dopa long term therapy in parkinsonism.
