Abstract
This study deals with the relationship between elastase levels and catabolism of GPlb during the storage period in three types of platelet concentrates. Leucocyte contamination has been found to be associated with the release of a quantity of elastase, that is already detectable at day +1 of storage. Such an enzyme is able to promote hypercatabolism of GPlb and glycocalicin (i.e., the proteolytic split product of GPlb).
