A ten-year-old boy is reported who presented with a progressive mental deterioration in the years following nocturnal complex partial seizures. The diagnosis of continuous spikes and waves during slow sleep (CSWS) was made. Repeated sleep recordings and detailed neuropsychological studies were made over a period of two years. The aim of the present study is to investigate the relationship between general neuropsychological performance and the subclinical epileptiform EEG disharges during sleep.
