This paper presents the preliminary results of a study on relationships between environmental, social, economic and health conditions of elderly people in the Italian Region of Calabria. The survey will be conducted on (randomized) sample of 300 people aged 75 and older living in three different geographic locations (urban, rural, and suburban) of the Region. The purpose is to create a database that will be useful in analyzing the importance of environmental factors on the process of successful ageing in order to decrease disability and improve the quality of life of the elderly. This article concerns the methodological framework and the first results of the initial qualitative study conducted on 25 stakeholders.
