Abstract

A case of a 69-year old man with follicular papules and pustules on the face is reported; cultures from pustules are negative for bacteria and fungi; histologic examination of a biopsy specimen reveals an infiltrate mainly of eosinophils within and around hair follicles. Light peripheral eosinophilia is present. The findings are compatible with eosinophilic pustular folliculitis. Treatment with systemic corticosteroid completely clears the skin lesions, but the lowering of the dose is followed by recurrence. A cycle with dapsone is without effect. A brief review of the literature on the clinical findings, differential diagnosis, therapy and pathogenesis is made.
