Abstract

Multiple sexual contacts are often associated with sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) and could represent one of the most relevant risk factors for acquiring HIV infection. For some STDs it has been suggested a possible enhancer role for HIV infection. In the present study STDs which have been observed in HIV infected patients admitted at the Clinica Malattie Infettive of the Catholic University in the period 1985-1992 are reported. A relationship between HIV infection and STDs seems to emerge from this analysis. It is important to stress that HIV infection should be considered in presence of STDs.
