The results are reported of a retrospective study which included 270 cases with RIAs and minor strokes and 185 cases with chronic CVD (post-ictal syndrome, pseudobulbar palsy, Binswanger's type encephalopathy). Epileptic seizures were found in 8% of the total population (10% in RIA/minor strokes and 5% in chronic CVD). A prevalence of partial seizures was observed in the first group, while a high occurrence of generalized seizures was found in the group of CCVD. In 1.5% of the total population seizures tended to relapse during the follow-up (2-5 years). The population characteristics and the EEG, CT and angiographic findings of ICVD patients with epileptic seizures are discussed, in order to find out correlations between the two pathologic conditions.
