The clinical records of 30 cases of retinal detachment in pseudophakic eyes were reviewed. In all cases the detachment was recent, with no more than 3 quadrants of extension, with or without macular involvement. In 14 eyes an episcleral surgery was performed while 16 eyes underwent vitreoretinal surgery. In these 2 groups the success rate and mean visual acuity showed no statistically significative difference. Decision making for surgery is estimated with consideration for the level of invasivity and possible iatrogenic damage.
