Abstract
The Vacuum phenomenon has been described in the cervical, thoracic and lumbar segments although the overall majority of cases involves the lumbar spine. The authors describe a case in which a gas-containing cyst was associated with a stenotic lateral recess at the same level in the absence of any disc material and two cases with gas containing disc herniation. The clinical and etiopathological characteristics of this condition are discussed and the pertinent literature is reviewed.
