The authors report a ph-manometric study on 14 patients with portal hypertension operated by esophageal devascularization and transection to evaluate a possible functional origin of stenotic complications. LES basal pressure, LES relaxation after swallowing, esophageal peristalsis and gastroesophageal reflux were the studied patterns. No significant modifications of esophageal function were found before and after the operation.
