Peripheral blood lymphocytes undergoing blast transformation after contact with FHA, show a rapid increase in glycolysis. The phenomenon can be quantitated by measuring the amount of lactate released in the culture medium. This measurement has been adapted to a micromethod which allows the study of PHA induoed transformation in a large number of samples in a short time. The present method which avoids the use of radioisotopes correlates in 90% of the cases with the 3H-thymidine incorporation test.
