N2 - Flexible cystoscopy has been analyzed for a long time particularly with regard to its potential applications, but little is known about its diagnostic reliability. From January 1995 to December 1995 we evaluated 406 patients (322 males and 84 females) with flexible and rigid cystoscopes. In our experience, 25 diagnostic errors occurred in flexible cystoscopy, and 18 investigations could not be performed due to inadequate visibility. Flexible cystoscopy was shown to be a reliable, atraumatic, well-tolerated technique, able to substitute the rigid one. Moreover, it can eliminate the need for ultrasonic evaluations in bladder cancer follow-up.
