An evaluation of the performance of prostate-specific antigen (PSA) analysis on the fully automated Magia Merck system is presented. The precision was excellent; the within-run coefficients of variation for three pools of sera with concentrations of 0.49, 7.50 and 38.90 μg/l were 2.70%, 4.16% and 4.81%. The between-run coefficients were 3.70%, 6.20% and 6.00%. The linearity test confirmed the manufacturer's claims (50 μg/l). Comparison tests showed that the Magia PSA assay is close to the Hybritech assay, which is universally accepted as a reference method (slope of linear regression analysis of 100 samples = 0.91).
