Abstract

Substances belonging to the group of cephalosporin are able to induce epileptic patterns of different intensity. In our research we utilized cephazolin administered topically on rabbit cerebral areas, obtaining behavioural and electroencephalographic epileptic patterns. Such experimental model has been studied evaluating the antiepileptic activity of topically administered diazepam. Successively, the cephazolin induced antiepileptic patterns have been evaluated in comparison to the activity of a new Ca-antagonist drug: nimodipine. Our research confirmed the antiepileptic activity of this substance when topically administered, supported by the results obtained in animals treated with placebo. In addition, our study showed that the antiepileptic activity of nimodipine can be antagonized by the cerebral topical administration of haloperidol.
