Abstract

Background. The aim of the study was to assess the relationship between the expression of endometrial and follicular relaxin (RLX) and the parameters of reproductive outcome in women undergoing IVF. Material and methods. Sixteen couples undergoing IVF because of moderate male factor were enrolled. Endometrial samples in proliferative and secretive phases, blood and follicular fluid during oocyte pickup were obtained. RLX-2 concentrations in the endometrium were assessed by means of spectophotometry, soluble relaxin concentrations in serum and follicular fluid were analyzed by means of ELISA technique. Between January and November 2009, 28 post-menopausal patients, from the menopause outpatients' section of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of the SUN, and were selected. Fourteen of these patients were healthy (Group A) and the other 14 patients suffered from metabolic sindrome (Group B) and were treated with drospirenone (2 mg) and estradiolo emidrato (1 mg) for six months in order to verify whether such therapy could be effective in the treatment of dysfunctional endoteliale. Results. The results show lower basal values of FMD but not significant in the group of patients wth metabolic sindrome and a better response to the compression data in healthy patients, even if statistically no significant. Conclusions. Our preliminary data show a possible role of relaxin expression in the reproductive process; that ovarian relaxin could be suggested to control the follicle growth and the oocyte development, to induce and link to its endometrial receptor - LGR7 - with effects involved in embryo implantation.
