Abstract

Skin tumors are many and very different since all skin structures can be the starting point for benign or malignant proliferative processes. The histological characteristics peculiar to the skin of the foot (absence of hairs, apocrine perspiratory glands and a large number of eccrine perspiratory glands), the lack of some specific tumorigenic stimuli (helioexposure) and the anatomo-functional characteristics of the foot, at this level, cause the onset of only some of the possible tumors pertaining the skin area. Therefore, in the following chapter, we have dealt in detail with skin tumors that are frequently found on the foot, and listed them according to their histological origin (epithelial tumors, adnexal carcinoma, melanoma, fibrous tumors, adipose tumors, muscular tumors, nervous tumors, vascular, cartilagineous and osteo tumors). Besides taking into consideration the clinical and histological aspects, the differential diagnosis and some therapeutical solutions have also been studied.
