The Cyclic Alternating Pattern (CAP) not only modulates the discharge rate of interictal EEG paroxysms, but it is altered in turn by the same epileptic abnormalities. The percentage of CAP during sleep, expression of an increased arousal instability, and the CAP cycle length are significantly increased by the occurrence of generalized EEG phenomena.
