Abstract
Retroperitoneal liposarcoma is a rare tumor of soft tissues and it reaches often huge dimensions. We observed a patient with an abdominal mass that completely occupied the right half of the abdomen. The patient underwent surgery and the tumor was completely removed. It proved to be a giant (14800 gr; 41 x 29 x 15 cm) liposarcoma of well differentiated myxoid type. No adjuvant therapy was considered. Actually, in the treatment of this neoplasm, radical surgery is the gold standard when possible. The efficacy of adjuvant treatments such as radio- and chemotherapy is not still proved. Debulking surgery and resections of local recurrences seem to improve patients survival.
