Abstract

In elderly males, and in particular in very old men, the anatomical changes produced by senility encourage the formation of large inguinoscrotal hernias. Their repair may be achieved using Gilbert's technique to which the authors have proposed a number of variants. The good results show that the 'tension-free' technique may be correctly applied in elderly patients with inguinoscrotal hernias, thus allowing a straightforward postoperative recovery with no complications.
