Abstract
We studied 38 newborns (16 females) born at term, with birth weight 50th centile of the reference). The urinary excretion of collagen cross-links at day 14 was higher in infants with p.i above the 10th centile of the reference and in children who later showed catch-up growth (1070±494 nmol Pyd/mmol cr, 264±207 nmol Dpd/mmol cr; n=28) than in infants with pi. below the 10th centile who did not overcome their growth problem (672±360 nmol Pyd/mmol cr, 181 ±90 nmol Dpd/mmol cr: n5) However, the difference was of borderline significance (0.10).
