Abstract

Between January 1993 and December 2000, 145 anti-HCV positive pregnant women with their offspring entered this prospective study. The vertical transmission rate was 3.31% overall, and it was higher in HIV co-infected women (8.7%) than in HIV negative (2.3%). HCV vertical transmission is very low in HCV positive/HIV negative women and it is restricted to infants born to HCV viremic mothers.
