High amplification ECG signal processing methods for enhancing ventricular late potentials

Abstract

Two methods are presented for the automatic detection of ventricular late potentials (VLPs) in patients after myocardial infarction (MI). One is based on using a bandpass digital filter on the averaged modulus of vectorcardiogram (VCG) along with a measure of QRS duration. The other realizes a Chebyshev polynomial interpolation on a segment of VCG modulus (20-200 ms after R wave occurrence time) along with a measure of the residual (difference between the interpolation curve and the actual signal). The parameters introduced satisfactorily discriminate between the populations of patients with and without VLPs. The procedure can provide an objective criterion for selecting patients with a higher incidence of malignant VT and VF.
