Abstract
The authors investigated by PCR, 43 non-mucinous cervical adenocarcinoma (33 endometrioid type and 10 clear cell) for the presence of HPV infection. The overall prevalence of HPV infection was 60.5%; 23.3% of the cases were positive for HPV 16, 25.6% for HPV 18, and 11.6% for both HPVs. HPV 16 was more frequent in endometrioid tumors and HPV 18 in clear cell carcinoma. Mixed HPV 16 and 18 infection was rare in both histotype. Patients with HPV infection were younger than HPV negative (p=O.OO1), however the type of HPV was unrelated to the age. The overall rate of HPV infection was not related to tumor grade and the overall survival of patients was weakly dependent on the presence of HPV DNA (p=0.09).
