Human platelet clumping by bovine fibrinogen

Abstract

Aggregation of human platelets after addition of bovine plasma or of purified bovine fibrinogen preparations from different sources is described. Some evidence for the hypothesis that bovine fibrinogen itself is the trigger of aggregation has been provided. The mechanism by which bovine fibrinogen clumps human platelets has been investigated: bovine fibrinogen could clump human platelets by a direct mechanism and also, independently of this immediate effect, release endogenous ADP which would induce further platelet aggregation.
