The ideal definition of EmEEG is an EEG recording ordered for a clinical emergency, performed at all hours within 1 hour from the request and immediately reported. The EmEEG with these characteristics is available only in some hospitals and there is no agreement among the real utility of this diagnostic method. Aim of this study is to review the reports of all EmEEG performed in our hospital (between October 2004 and February 2005) for evaluate the utility and indications of diagnostic examen. The diagnostic yield of EmEEG is particularly relevant in epileptic seizures and in SE, convulsive or not. The EmEEG is also of utility in coma and stroke whereas is not indicated in syncope and transient alterations of consciousness.
