Abstract
In order to evaluate the healing of infected non-union in long bones using Ilizarov's method, 32 patients - 30 men and 2 women - 10 tibias, 9 femurs, 7 forearms, and 6 humerus have been analyzed at the Hospital Center of Camaragibe, from January 1991 to February 1992. Four presented angular deformities, 12 intercalary defects, 16 focal infections. Evaluation considered union, healing of infection, correction of angular deformities, decrease in intercalary defects, and angular articular function. The final results showed that 20 were good, 6 regular, and 6 poor. The conclusion was that Ilizarov's technique is an efficient healing method in 62.5% of the cases, a percentage which is higher than that of other techniques.
