Rasmussen Encephalitis (RE) is an acquired neurological disorder characterized by intractable partial epilepsy and progressive hemispheric dysfunction. An autoimmune patogenesis for RE has been proposed based on the presence of antibodies against glutamate receptor 3 (GluR3) in these patients. We performed immunohistoblot experiments on rat brain sections with sera from RE patients, patients affected by other form of epilepsies and healthy donors to provide further proof for the presence of antibodies against glutamate receptors. The histoblot analysis showed positive staining in both GluR3- and NMDA-specific regions of rat brain, providing a comprehensive central nervous system immunolocalization.
