Abstract

The evaluation of immunobiological parameters in multiple sclerosis has the following targets: 1) aid to diagnosis 2) prognostic value 3) correlation with clinical/anatomical disease activity 4) monitoring of pharmacological treatments. The following parameters are analyzed in this respect: a) spinal fluid Ig, b) spinal fluid myelin basic protein, c) spinal fluid and peripheral blood lymphocyte subsets, d) cytokine levels in serum and spinal fluid. Data from the literature are reported together with results of monitoring of pharmacological treatments in our Institution.
