Incidence of HBV, HCV and HIV infections was evaluated in a prison people, at the prison in Vasto (CH), in 1990-1991: 146 male prisoners, among 20 and 58 years aged, were examined. The authors studied the correlations among infections and risk factors (drug addiction, homosexuality...) and the duration of the imprisonment. The results showed: - high incidence (53%) of HBV, HCV and HIV infections for the large number of iv drug users in the prison; the iv drug addiction is the most important risk factor, overall if it goes on for over 4 years; - the presence of 18 HIV positives: two of them have got domiciliary arrest.
