Abstract

Intraoperative ultrasonography was performed after meticulous palpation of the liver in 50 patients undergoing surgery for colorectal cancer. Twenty-two lesions of the liver or the biliary tract were discovered (13 benign and 9 metastases). In 9 cases (18%) intraoperative findings required a different surgical approach, either extensive or limited. The comparison with other means of liver exploration proved a real advantage of this protocol and a higher imaging resolution of hepatic lesions, especially small (
