Abstract

In 8 patients with bronchial asthma in clinical remission and in 2 of them also during an asthmatic attack, we evaluated the effects of different doses of Reproterol (20 and 450 mcg) on heart rate (HR), mean integrated arterial pressure (MIAP), respiratory rate (RR), vital capacity (VC) and forced expiratory volume in 1 sec. (FEV1). The drug was given by slow infusion and the above parameters measured after 5, 15, 30, 60, 90 minutes from the onset of the injection. Neither of the two doses of the drug was found to significantly modify MIAP, while transient increases in HR was noted at the major doses of the drug. In contrast, VC and FEV1 were found to be significantly modified by both doses during all the procedure. These data show the bronchodilatory effect of Reproterol but the absence of cardiocirculatory effects.
