The authors corrected during the first year of life, 17 left to right heart shunts of variable complexity, using deep hypothermia. They report their technique and results. Although the number of cases of common atrioventricular canal and cor biloculare were minimal in this series, the authors believe that one may attempt corrective surgery of such malformations at this age. The results of two stage surgery for these congenital malformations are very poor. Single stage correction of VSD whether associated or not with other malformations, is definitely successful using deep hypothermia. There was only one death in 11 operated cases. Its results justify this method of correction when compared with two stage surgery.
