In order to investigate the role of platelets (PL) in the pathogenesis of untoward reactions due to i.v. fat emulsions, 30 subjects comparable for age, weight and height were studied. They randomly received i.v. fat infusion (1.2 g/Kg b.w. Liposyn 10%) during 12, 8 and 6 hours. Serum PL count, TG; lipidogram, HPT, pAlb, Alb, ApoA and B were recorded at the same time. The PL count didn't change significantly. The serum TG reached highest concentration at the end of infusion, then were back to the starting point at 24th hour. The PL aggregation tests showed significant differences after infusion and at 24th hour in all the groups. No clinical side effects were found during Liposyn infusion.
