Abstract

The treatment of blepharospasm with botulinum toxin was introduced about ten years ago and it is, nowadays, the first-choice therapy for this condition. A retrospective study on 120 patients, affected by idiopathic or symptomatic blepharospasm and treated with repeated injection of botulinum toxin type A, was conducted. The latency and the duration of clinical effect, the percentage of improvement and the side effects were analyzed longitudinally. We compared the clinical efficacy of the two pharmaceutical preparations of botulinum toxin type A available in Italy (Botox and Dy sport).
