Abstract

A multicentric randomized clinical trial on advanced breast cancer patients has been designed in order to confirm the positive results of in vitro studies on the potentiation by lonidamine of the antiproliferative activity of adriamycin. This first report is based mainly on the analysis of toxicity on 85 patients who completed the planned therapeutic program. Adriamycin toxicity did not differ much from that reported in the literature; some compliance difficulties were, however, reported in a group of patients treated with lonidamine. This data, if confirmed by final results, must be taken into consideration when the dose intensity and related clinical response are evaluated.
