Abstract

We examined the clinical records of all the health care workers of the nursing sector in our rehabilitation Institute, where fatiguing manoeuvres are often required. About 1/5 of the professional nurses (mean age 35 years) and a half of the auxiliary personnel (mean age 47 years) showed pathologies of the lumbar column, causing work absences and different pharmacological and physioterapic treatments. Two professional nurses and seven auxiliary nurses, after specialistic assessment, were diagnosed lumbar disc herniation.
