Lung diseases: Chronic respiratory infections

Abstract

Acute and chronic respiratory infections are the leading causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide [1]. A better understanding of the epidemiology, pathophysiologic mechanisms and potential new treatments of chronic respiratory infections is one of the main issues in the management of chronic respiratory infections. In this special issue, 9 original research studies and 5 reviews have been published (see Table 1).
