Lymphocyte cytotoxicity to autologous hepatocytes in chronic hepatitis B virus infection

Abstract

The authors report on studies using lymphocyte subpopulations, viral antigens as targets for T-cell cytotoxicity and the clinical relevance of lymphocyte cytotoxicity to autologous hepatocytes in chronic hepatitis B virus infection. Although the assay evaluates detachment of target cells, an indirect reflection of cytotoxicity, comparative studies using other target cells have shown a good correlation between the results obtained in microcytotoxicity and chromium release assays.
