One of the aims of the International Society of Geriatric Oncology (SIOG) is to promote the evidence-based care of elderly cancer patients. To develop coherent therapeutic approaches, it is important to understand how geriatric oncology is managed within the various centres that collaborate with SIOG. A survey consisting of 58 questionnaires was performed and reveals that comprehensive geriatric assessments are carried out in 60% of the centres, while 21 centres have specific geriatric oncology programmes, most of them in oncology departments. Sixty percent of the responding centres indicated that patients older than 70 should participate in clinical studies, although only 20% of the centres are recruiting patients for such studies.
