The morphology of the nuclei observed in cystic mastopathy, ductal and lobular hyperplasia, and in papillomatosis not associated with carcinoma of the breast, were compared with those observed in the same lesions concomitant with carcinoma. The latter show cell nuclei with a significant increase in the nucleus; cytoplasma; nucleolus; nucleus ratio and in the chromatin content. An increased frequency of cells with prophasic and telophasic nuclei was observed in the lesions concomitant with carcinoma; in the same lesions the cells with interphase nuclei were decreased.
