Abstract
The maturation and release stages of the developmental cycle of a human corona-virus (strain 229 E) in human embryo fibroblast cell cultures were studied by electron microscopy. The maturation takes place by budding of viral components from the limiting membrane of the vesicles of the endoplasmic reticulum. The viral release is usually subsequent to the cell lysis. Neither viral particles into the nucleus, nor budding from the cell membrane were observed. Findings are discussed on the basis of the most recent data of the literature on human and animal coronaviruses.
