Membrane IgD and the maturation of B lymphocytes

B. Pernis, M. Ferrarini

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

In 15 patients with human lymphocytic leukemias, immunofluorescence mostly revealed IgD in more than 50% of the cells, while the figures for the IgM bearing cells showed great variations. A maturation process takes place in the leukemic cell clone, leading up to the actively secreting plasma cell. IgD seems to be the first receptor, and transition to the production of IgM is necessary for active secretion. (Ludin - Basle)
