The Authors review the studies on the neuropsychologic performances of epileptic children and on the impact of anti-epileptic drugs. Although the nature of the memory and attention disturbance and of the learning loss is not clear, there exists a relationship between neuropsychologic functioning and type of epilepsy and relative treatment. Among the various drugs, valproate and carbamazepine show the least negative effects on cognitive functions. The reason of the low cognitive performance of epileptic children is not clearly understood. The Authors think it is a multifactorial disturbance.
