Abstract

Neuropsychological examination is an important aspect of presurgical diagnostic protocol. In particular, the evaluation of memory functioning plays a role in lateralizing and localizing epileptogenic zone. The aim of our study was to evaluate memory functioning in 36 patients affected by drug-resistant temporal lobe epilepsy, classified In three subtypes, "mesial", "mesio-lateral" and "lateral", on the basis of anatomo-electro-clinical correlations. Our results confirm a good lateralizing value of memory tests. Moreover, the "mesial" and "mesio-lateral" subtypes, in which a hippocampal dysfunction was expected, showed a lower memory performance respect to "lateral" subtype.
