Abstract
From a group of 20 patients studied in our center from 1988 to 1993 we drew out 5 patients that collect most of signs and symptoms of meningeal carcinomatosis. Each patient, excepting case 5, was given Methotrexate (MTX), 10 mg/m2 weekly intrathecally by lumbar puncture until the results of CSF cytodiagnosis were negative. Patients 5 was treated, without benefit, only with whole brain radiotherapy. One patient had a lung cancer, the others had breast adc. In this group of patients the utility of MTX administered intrathecally by lumbar puncture is confirmed. The treatment improves or stabilizes neurological symptomatology and at times prolongs survival of patients.
