Abstract
The authors, who have treated 40 meningocele patients, review the results obtained in repairing this malformation. The protocol that was followed in all cases included neurosurgical repair followed by plastic surgical repair, both taking place during the same operating session. The authors describe the cutaneous repair and in particular the skin flap that was used to cover the residual defect after neurosurgical reconstruction of the neural plaque and of its meningeal sheet. The techniques for raising and transposing the flap are then described and the flap reliability is stressed. The proposed method of repair is then discussed and compared with other techniques described in the literature.
