N2 - Diabetic retinopathy has an enormous impact on visual function, even before permanent visual acuity loss. Moreover, adequate functional tests are mandatory to diagnose and follow diabetic patients treated for diabetic macular edema (DME). More precisely, the visual function safety profile of any therapy for DME should be accurately investigated. Microperimetry offers the possibility to obtain an exact fundus-related quantification of retinal sensitivity, and it is changing the current approach to the functional investigation of diabetic retinopathy.
