Abstract
We performed a multicenter case-control study to evaluate risk factors for a first symptomatic epileptic seizure. Cases are adult patients with a first seizure symptomatic of stroke, intracranial tumor or head trauma. Controls are matched to the cases for center, sex, age, and underlying pathology. None of the classical risk factors for epileptic seizures was associated with a first symptomatic seizure.
