The modern concept of reconstructive surgery in the head and neck region calls for single-stage operations to be performed. The musculocutaneous flaps, thanks to their good blood supply and to their negligible rate of morbidity, satisfy this prerequisite. The author reports technical details and his clinical experience in the use of sterno-mastoid, posterior trapezius and pectoralis major musculo-cutaneous flaps to cover various types of defects.
